Topo Map Magnet Designer

A 3D topographic fridge magnet of any place on Earth: a mountain, a canyon, a national park or your hometown hills. Pick a place, choose the shape and colors, and watch the real terrain build in 3D.

The 3D preview is built from real elevation data in your browser. Colors in the preview show where the filament changes. Every design gets a quick check by a person before we quote and print it.

    °
Centre of the map, decimal degrees (north is positive).

How much ground the magnet covers, left to right.
    Shape
    Shape

    mm
Rectangles only. Circles are as tall as they are wide; hexagons are 0.866 x the width.
    Relief
    x
1 = true scale. Raise it for flatter places so hills and canyons stand out.
    Colours
    Colours
Colour bands by elevation, printed with a multi-colour printer (AMS) by swapping filament at set heights.
    Label
Optional raised text on a flat band along the bottom, e.g. MT FUJI.
    mm
Letter height. Long labels shrink to fit.
    Magnet
Neodymium disc magnets glued into pockets in the back.
    Material

Sun and heat: Standard PLA can soften or warp in hot sun or a hot car. For outdoor booths, sunny windows and anything that rides in a vehicle, pick ASA. ASA is about 35% more. ABS is available on any build.

Real terrain, 3D printed into a fridge magnet

Pick a place anywhere on Earth, like Mt Fuji, the Grand Canyon, the Franklin Mountains above El Paso or the trail you hiked last summer, and the designer builds a 3D topographic magnet from real elevation data. Choose a rectangle, circle or hexagon, how much ground it covers, how much to exaggerate the hills, and up to 4 colors that change with elevation, like green valleys, brown slopes and snowy peaks.

Add a label along the bottom and strong magnets in the back. It makes a great souvenir, gift for hikers and climbers, or a set for a gift shop.

    Questions and answers

Where does the elevation data come from?

From open elevation data: USGS 3DEP for the United States, plus SRTM, GMTED2010, NOAA ETOPO1 and other national open data elsewhere, served by Terrain Tiles on the Registry of Open Data on AWS. The data credit is printed on the back of every magnet.

    How detailed is it?

Inside the US the data is very detailed, so canyons, ridges and trails show up well. Elsewhere it is about 30 m per point, which is plenty for mountains and parks. Small or flat places look best with more height exaggeration.

    How do the colors work?

We print the colors in layers by height with a multi-color printer, so the colors in the 3D preview are exactly where the filament changes. Pick 1 to 4 colors.

Will it stick to my fridge?

Yes. Each magnet gets 1 to 4 strong neodymium magnets set into pockets in the back. You can also order it with no magnets as a desk piece.

How do I get a price?

Send your design from this page. A person checks it and replies, usually within one business day, with the price and a payment link. Nothing is charged until you approve.

Will it hold up in the sun or a hot car?

Standard PLA can soften or warp in hot sun or a hot car. For outdoor booths, sunny windows and anything that rides in a vehicle, choose ASA, our outdoor material, for about 35% more. ABS is also available on any build.

Can I pick it up in El Paso, or do you ship?

Both. Pick it up free at our shop at 9109 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79924, or we ship anywhere in the United States ($7.50 flat, free on orders of $75 or more).
