Materials We Offer

How to Order a 3D Print

Getting your 3D model printed with us is easy! Here’s how you can get started:

  1. Prepare Your Design:

    • We accept files in STL, OBJ, or 3MF formats. These formats are standard for 3D modeling and will help ensure that your design is ready to print.

    • Ensure that your model is sized to fit within our print dimensions. Currently, our printer supports a print area of 220 x 220 x 250 mm (8.6 x 8.6 x 9.8 inches).

  2. Submit Your File:

    • Upload your design through our website’s 3D printing request form or email it directly to our team. Be sure to specify the material (PLA or PETG) and any special instructions (layer height, infill density, etc.).

  3. Choose Print Options:

    • We’ll work with you to choose the right settings for your project, such as print speed, layer height, and infill. If you’re unsure about these details, our team can recommend the best options based on your design and its intended use.

  4. Receive a Quote:

    • After reviewing your file, we’ll provide a cost estimate based on material usage, print time, and complexity. You’ll have a chance to approve the quote before we begin.

  5. Confirm and Print:

    • Once you approve the quote, we’ll start printing. Our printer produces high-quality results, and we’ll keep you updated on the progress of your print.

  6. Pickup or Delivery:

    • When your item is ready, we’ll notify you for pickup at The Gizmo Grotto or arrange for delivery if you prefer.

For your health and safety, we’re currently offering non-toxic filament options. Our printer supports various plastics, but we are focusing on materials that produce minimal or no fumes:

  • PLA (Polylactic Acid): A biodegradable plastic derived from renewable resources, PLA is ideal for detailed prints, models, and general-purpose items. It’s safe for indoor use and is one of the most popular choices for 3D printing.

  • PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol): Known for its strength and flexibility, PETG is perfect for functional items that need a bit of durability. It’s also food-safe under certain conditions and has minimal fumes.

Note: As we expand, we may add more material options based on demand and safety standards.

Drop-off Instructions and Guidelines

 

Preparing Your Items:

  • Data Removal: Ensure all personal data is removed from devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets. This includes performing a factory reset and physically removing any storage media when possible.

  • Battery Removal: Safely remove batteries from devices, if possible. This is especially important for damaged or swollen batteries, which pose a safety risk.

  • Sorting: Please sort items according to the categories listed above before arrival to expedite the drop-off process.

 

What to Bring:

  • Items as per the list above. Please ensure they are clean and free from excessive dirt or dust.

 

What Not to Bring:

  • Non-electronic waste, organic waste, hazardous materials (e.g., radioactive materials, highly flammable items, biohazards), car batteries, and NiCd batteries. 

  • If you have a question about what to bring, please reach out to us.

Decontamination of Medical Equipment:

  • All medical equipment must be properly decontaminated according to health and safety standards prior to drop-off. Certification of decontamination may be required.

 

Arrival and Check-In:

  • Upon arrival, please check in at the reception or designated drop-off area.

  • Our staff will assist you with unloading and sorting if needed and provide you with a receipt of your drop-off.

 

Environmental Responsibility:

  • We ensure all e-waste is recycled or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to local and national regulations.
